Saturday Feb 24th, Food For Life is participating in a Canada wide event called Coldest Night of the Year. The Coldest Night of the Year is a fun, family-friendly fundraiser that raises money for local charities serving hungry, homeless and hurting families and youth in 120 communities across Canada.
This year the local event will be held at the Glen Abbey Community Centre in Oakville starting at 4pm. Participants will walk a prescribed route of 2k, 5k or 10k, then return to the centre for a light dinner and entertainment.
Food For Life is hoping to recruit volunteers to help register people at the event (inside the community centre) before the walk and greet them after, help out with the post walk events and generally assist so that the afternoon/evening goes smoothly. Since Widowed Friends has a history of helping out Food For Life, they turned to our great group of volunteers to see if anyone might be interested in this opportunity.
If you have a few hours to share your time and volunteer to help raise funds for a good cause, you can sign up for a widowed friends team on meet up ( to be posted shortly). Of course you are welcome to walk the route as well as a participant with family and friends, if you prefer.
Food For Life manages 40 outreach programs each week including pop-up food banks at churches, community centres and community housing sites across Halton. With the number of people relying on food banks increasing – events like this help fund solutions that answer the issues of hunger in our community
